Boots has become the first high street shop to sell home DNA testing kits. Such equipment was only sold online and in independent pharmacies however they are now be available in Boots stores throughout the UK.
The kit has a retail price of £29.99 with a further £129 going to the laboratory for testing the samples and sending back their findings. The process works by the couple and their child providing cotton swab samples which they have inserted into their mouths and then returning it for analysis. The lab makes their assessment and then supplies results five days later.
Critics of the home DNA tests say making it easily available in a high street store will lead to more couples splitting up, with severe consequences for the Child Support Agency in the future. Another important question to consider though, does this news mean the demise of The Jeremy Kyle Show?
