You think about Inception, you think about The Dark Knight you think about Memento and you ask the question where on earth did the genius and the invention of Christopher Nolan spring from? It all started with the short Doodlebug (Laying aside his contributions to the short Tarantella).
Just watching it you can feel Nolan’s mind in the mix – it’s as if he’s just emerging from his creative shell and the interesting ideas are beginning to flourish. You can dissect themes similar to Nolan’s current work such as paranoia, identity, that fine line between reality and conception, and of course obsession. It’s funny when you think at the time he made Doodlebug all those great ideas were just emerging. The pioneer was only just experimenting back then at his film society, during his studies at University College London. Now look where he is. Sitting with two Golden Globe nominations for Inception, expecting another Oscar nod (the first he received in 2002 for writing Memento) in January!
