The Ballon d’Or List Revealed

The shortlist for the 2010 Fifa Ballon d’Or award has been revealed and they are all from the same team – Lionel Messi, Xavi and Andres Iniesta, all from Barcelona. The Fifa Ballon d’Or award is a new football award, which was decided by football journalists, and arose through the merge of the Fifa world player of the year and the Ballon d’Or.

Also, for the new coach of the year award all contenders are associated with Spain – Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho, Barcelona’s Pep Guardiola and Vicente del Bosque, who lead Spain to their first World Cup title.

The winner of the awards will be announced on January 10th. After scoring 34 league goals last season and 15 for this season; Lionel Messi,  is favourite for the player award. The manager award is difficult. Leading Spain to their first World Cup is a massive achievement for Vicente del Bosque, however before his move to Real Madrid, Jose Mourinho won the treble with Inter Milan; Serie A, Coppa Italia and the Champions League.
