Golden Globes 2011: How Could Hans Zimmer Miss Out?

One of the big shocks of the night for me was Hans Zimmer losing out to Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor for Best Original Score. Not only did this mean Inception took home absolutely nothing last night, but it also dampened Inception‘s Oscar chances next month.

How an earth could the Hollywood Foreign Press Association get this all wrong? Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ track is haunting and vivid, it really portrays the dark undertones of The Social Network and it makes you ask obscure questions about the characters. But it doesn’t have the qualities of the mind-ripping Inception, which could be argued as going down as one of the greatest movie soundtracks of all time. Inception isn’t a soundtrack – it’s an anthem one which shouldn’t be ignored like this.

The Oscars are not so far away now and this has really got me worried. If Inception lost out in the Golden Globes for Best Original Score, there is really good chance The Social Network will pinch another Oscar from Inception, and Hans Zimmer will get overlooked. What a damn travesty this will be if this happens – just like when Tom Hanks won Best Actor for Forrest Gump when surely it should’ve gone to Morgan Freeman for The Shawshank Redemption.
